Trekking in the Surma Territory

Duration: 10 days

Day 01: Arrival 

Arrive in Addis Ababa- the third highest capital in the world lying between 2300 - 2500 meters, be met by our representative and get transferred into your hotel.

Day 02: Drive to Jimma via Welkite & Weliso, about 350kms

Day 03: Drive to the highland town of Mizan Tefari, about 220kms

This is a drive through the Kaffa region, generally regarded to be the region from where the Arabica strain of coffee originated, and it is also where this plant was first cultivated.

Day 04: Drive to Tum, about 120kms

Pass through the Keficho people, famous for their agriculture and honey harvest, and then the Megenger who were famous hunters and gathers. The last drive before you get in Dezi tribe is through the territory of the Surma tribe.  The drive is descending in terms of altitude from1900meterse to 900 meters.

Day 05: Trek from Tum –Maji (8hours)

Admire their farm style and visit some of the villages of the tripe. Pass the steep mountain of Yikir Domoze and arrive Maji in late afternoon for camping on the side of the town.

Day 06: Trek from Maji –Adikas (6-7 hours)

Trek through a bush trail which has very good scenery.

Day 07: Trek from Adikas –Kibish (4 -5hours)

Walk on flat landscape of the Surma tribe. This also gives good opportunity of looking the different social activities of Surma tribe like tattooing, sucking blood from animals, body painting and chance fully the Donga (stick flight)

Day 08: Drive back to Mizan Tefari

Day 09: Drive back to Jimma

Day 09: Drive back to Addis Ababa
