Located 400km southeast of Addis Ababa, Bale Mountains National Park contains a spectacularly diverse landscape. The high altitude, afro-montane Sanetti Plateau rises to over 4,000m and includes the highest peak in the southern Ethiopia highlands. This undulating plateau is marked by numerous glacial lakes and swamps and is surrounded by higher volcanic ridges and peaks. The southern slopes are covered by the lush and largely unexplored Harenna Forest.

Day 02: Take a morning lakeside walk to visit the Sidamo fisherman as they land their catches of Tilapia and catfish, and gut and fillet them by the lake. Then leave Awassa behind and drive along the rough road to the Bale Mountains National Park, a journey that is both scenic and exciting.
Bale Mountain National Park is known for their wildlife. Over 60 mammal Species and 260 bird species have been recorded here.
Finch Hbera, 4hrs. Enjoy the beautiful landscapes and different birds; before the camp sight (3300m) there is a waterfall, carved a deep cave under its ledge.
Trek from Habera – Wasama, 5 – 6 hrs. Ethiopian Wolf and birds like Tawny Eagle, Augur Buzzard and the endemic Lammergeyer will meet you on your way.
Trek from Wasama – Garba Gurcha (4,100m), 5 – 6 hrs. Cross Mt. Batu (4,203m), the second highest peak of the Bale Mountains National Park. The view over the lake and to the lowlands beyond is magnificent.
Trek from Gabra Guracha – Senatti plateau, 4000m above sea level. Then after 2hrs walking met by the driver and proceed to the second highest mountain in Ethiopia, Mt. Tullu Deemtu 4,377mabove sea level. Search for the endemic Ethiopia Wolf and Abyssinian Hare.
Drive to the SOF Omar Caves, an extraordinary natural phenomenon, about 120km. It is one of the most spectacular and extensive underground caverns in the world.
Today leave Bale and drive to Wondo Genet, about 5-hour drive. It is a forest resort. Bathe in the natural hot spring. This exotic forest is a feast for myriads of birds.
